On 31 March, 2008 the Georgian Foundation for Strategic and International Studies hosted a presentation by Jeffrey Gedmin, the President of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL). Mr. Gedmin spoke about the importance of a free press to the development of a stable democracy, and about the role of the press in Georgia.  He observed that, despite some challenges to press freedom, Georgia has made remarkable progress since independence and is far ahead of its neighbors. He also spoke about the role of RFE/RL in promoting social and political development, as an independent, unbiased perspective on the events of the day.

David Kakabadze, the Director of RFE/R’s Georgia Service, joined Mr. Gedmin in the discussion.
