On November 20 – 21, 2008 the Georgian Foundation for Strategic and International Studies, in cooperation with the Canadian Bureau of International Education, in the framework of Public Policy Knowledge Network  project (supported by the Canadian government through the Canadian International Development Agency), organized a regional professional development workshop-“Leadership for Good Governance”.

The goal of the workshop was to build leadership capacity by providing training on key leadership and management competencies and demonstrating the role of leadership to facilitate the development of sustainable, indigenous demand for greater public sector and public policy capacity, effectiveness, transparency and accountability in the management of public resources, goods and services.

Fifteen participants from the three countries of South Caucasus: Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan were recruited to attend the workshop. The target audience for the event was representatives of the executive and legislative branches of government, as well as civil society, including academia, media and private sector.

The participants were trained by skilled experts from Canada: David C. Elder, a member of the Faculty of the School of Policy Studies of Queen’s University, an independent consultant on public policy and management issues, a Senior Advisor to the Canada School of Public Service in its international learning programs; and Ms. Katherine Murray, a senior manager with over 18 years of diverse Human Resource management and organizational development experience in learning, and organizational development, communications and change management.  She has been with Export Development Canada since January of 2006.  She has championed such corporate programs as: talent management and succession planning, change management, leadership development, coaching, team effectiveness, career development and competency frameworks.

The two day workshop was followed by the Graduation Ceremony, the workshop participants were awarded with the Certificates of Completion.
