Overall objective of the project was to strengthen and involve civil societies of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine in the solution of political, social and cultural problems of their countries and the region. Specific objectives included:  strengthening organisational and communication skills of civil society leaders in Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine; educating and informing civil society leaders about European democratic processes and values; increasing ability of civil society organisations and their activists to promote domestically Council of Europe’s standards and apply them in their contacts with authorities; and connecting emerging civil society leaders with their peers from the Black sea region countries and international non-governmental organisations.

The Georgian Foundation of Strategic and International Studies (GFSIS) as an implementing partner of the project in Georgia selected 24 qualified participants to join the network (12 NGO representatives per year) and facilitated four three-day long sessions  over a twelve-month period and a concluding Alumni Conference.

Civil Society Leadership Network created by the project and consisting of 120 influential civil society leaders from Eastern Europe and Southern Caucasus facilitates information sharing and co-operation within the region.
