Geostrategic Activities

War in Ukraine – One Ukrainian soldier was killed and one was wounded by the Russian hybrid forces on the Donbass frontline during the week of 18-24 January 2021.

War in Syria – Russian air force conducted strikes against Syrian rebels in the Idlib region on 21 January 2021.

Russia in Africa – Russian troops, officially designated by Moscow as “military instructors,” sent to the Central African Republic in December, are set to remain in the country for an indefinite period of time.

 

Rearmament and Modernization

Russia’s new Steregushchiy / Project 20380 class corvette Aldar Tsydenzhapov will serve at the Vladivostok naval baseaccording to the latest information. Previous plans involved the ship’s stationing at the Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky naval base, on the Kamchatka Peninsula.

Russian armed forces received the first batch of the Penicillin acoustic-thermal artillery reconnaissance systems.

Arms Exports

Russia signed an agreement with Myanmar to sell it Pantsir-S1 air defense systems, Orlan-10E UAVs and radar stations of an unidentified type.
