On June 4, 2006, under the framework of a project “Raising Awareness about European Union in Georgia”, the Georgian Foundation for Strategic and International Studies organized another outreach seminar in Batumi hosted by the Batumi State University. The seminar was conducted in coordination with European Commission Delegation to Georgia and was organized  within a bigger framework of the event held in Batumi at the same time – “Seminar for journalists from Western Georgia.”

An intensive seminar covered issues fundamental to European integration: history of European integration; EU institutions; European Common Foreign and Security Policy; Transportation and Energy policy of the EU; and EU-Georgia relations – Partnership and Cooperation Agreement  and European Neighborhood Policy . Many other topics, relevant to journalists working on EU issues were also covered during the seminar.

The seminar was a much needed contribution to raising public awareness about European Union in Georgia. As journalists are the best multipliers of knowledge, educating journalists on the issues of EU integration is the best guarantee that Georgian public will receive knowledgeable analysis of the events concerning EU in particular, as well as EU-Georgia relations.

Under the aegis of this project similar seminar was already conducted in Telavi. There are two more outreach seminars (Kutaisi and Zugdidi) to be carried out under the framework of this Jean Monnet project.
