On February 1, 2017 the Georgian Foundation for Strategic and International Studies (Rondeli Foundation) organized a meeting between Mr. Koba Gvenetadze, the President of the National Bank of Georgia and the representatives of academic community. The meeting was attended by Archil Mestvirishvili, the Vice-President of the National Bank of Georgia.

The aim of the meeting was to establish the direct communication in “Chatham House” format between the politically independent analysts and the representatives of the relevant governmental institutions.

The event was moderated by Eka Metreveli, the President of the Foundation and Prof. Merab Kakulia, Director of the Center for Financial Stability and Competitiveness at the Foundation.

Mr. Koba Gvenetadze gave a presentation on “The formation of the monetary policy in Georgia and thoroughly discussed the objective of the monetary policy, the regime of inflation targeting and the instruments of the monetary policy. The speaker highlighted the refinancing loans dynamic and liquidity forecast and management of the banking sector.

The presentation was followed by Q/A mode; the NBG President answered the questions from the audience on the effectiveness of the monetary policy, the stability of the financial sector, the regulation of non-profile assets of the banks and the dedolarization of the economy.
